Upper G.I Endoscopy

Upper G.I Endoscopy procedures are to be done by medical professionals you trust. At Katy Stomach Doctor, we regard this procedure as we do our others; to be done effectively and efficiently keeping the patient informed and updated as needed. Find out if an Upper G.I Endoscopy treatment could be the procedure you need below.

What is Upper G.I Endoscopy Treatment?

Upper G.I Endoscopy Treatment is also known as EGD and it is a procedure used to look inside the upper digestive tract. A tiny camera at the end of a long, thin, flexible tube is placed inside of the patient via entering the mouth as the doctor investigates, diagnoses, or treats any condition that could affect the upper part of the digestive system.

Who Needs an Upper GI Endoscopy?

If an unidentifiable abnormality with the esophagus or stomach arises, an Upper GI Endoscopy would be used to further investigate the issue. Those who qualify as a candidate for the Upper G.I Endoscopy treatment are those who may experience and seek to identify reasons for:

  • Chest or abdominal pain
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Heartburn
  • Bleeding
  • Swallowing problems
  • Inflammation
  • and any other closely related issues involving the digestive system.

How to Prepare for an Upper G.I Endoscopy

If you have scheduled an Upper G.I Endoscopy procedure, you will be asked to fast for the eight hours leading up to the procedure. It is imperative to inform the doctor if you are pregnant, have any conditions related to the cardiovascular system, or if you are allergic to any medications. Following the procedure, it is recommended to have a designated driver take you home. The effects from the sedation could cause you to have dizziness, drowsiness, and impaired judgment, therefore, operating any machinery or driving for up to eight hours after the procedure isn’t recommended.
